Annapurna Base camp etc
by Fr. E.C. Sebastian, S.J. - October 31st, 2009
September – October months are festival season here in Nepal and give a welcome break from studies and work. Almost the whole country shuts down as every one heads for ‘home’ where ever that might be. Along with with 3 other Jesuits I too took off for a trek to the Annapurna Base Camp. It was a 2 and a 1/2 day of walk from Pokhara. On the way we met people from around the globe and people of all ages- from a One year old being carried, to a seven year old walking gallantly for days, to a seventy year old; and people from NZ, Australia, all of Europe, Iran, Israel, Canada, India and young people from Nepal.
On the second day my knee gave in and i was planning to return disappointed. But God other plans – God sent an angel to fix my problem- the angel was a doctor from S Korea and he luckily had with him his acupuncture needles and in 5 minutes fixed my knees and i was able to continue and complete the trek – a wonderful experience. Also to experience the beauty of this wonderful land, its mountains, its many many rivers, and most of all its wonderful people.
I might do it again – next year!
